Heavy Duty All-Steel Construction for Hard-Use AR-15 Platforms
Standard AR-15 buffers rely on lightweight aluminum bodies that can mar, deform, or crack under high-volume fire or extreme gas pressures. The Mid State Firearms Heavy Duty 4.6oz Steel H2 Buffer eliminates this weak point entirely. By replacing the standard aluminum shell with heavy-duty steel construction, we’ve distributed the reciprocating mass across the entire length of the buffer body for smoother cycling and maximum structural longevity. This uses a floating internal weight (not a solid body buffer, it still ‘rattles’ when you shake it).
Designed for Suppressed & Over-Gassed Carbines
If your M4 carbine or AR-15 build is ejecting brass violently forward (1 o’clock to 2 o’clock position) or experiencing harsh felt recoil, it is likely over-gassed. At a perfectly calibrated 4.6 ounces, this H2-weight buffer delays bolt unlock time just enough to let chamber pressures drop. The result is reduced parts wear, cleaner operation, and a noticeably flatter recoil impulse—especially when running a suppressor.
Active Reciprocating Weight Prevents Bolt Bounce
Don’t confuse this with a cheap, static deadweight. This buffer features a precision-machined, solid internal weight that moves freely inside the steel body. This reciprocating action creates a crucial “dead-blow” effect. When your bolt carrier group slams into battery, the internal weight lags split-seconds behind, striking the front face to dampen energy and completely eliminate catastrophic bolt bounce during rapid strings of fire.

Why Choose an All-Steel H2 Buffer?
Traditional H2 buffers use expensive tungsten pucks inside an aluminum shell to reach 4.6 ounces. By shifting to a heavy-duty steel body and steel weight configuration, we deliver the exact same physical mass and physics-backed performance, but inside a bombproof, wear-resistant chassis that outlasts standard aluminum alternatives under duty conditions.

sound of freedom – This was a great set up. I loved being able to customize the set up. Only issue I had was my own fault as a newb to building these. I used a heavy barrel in a slim hand guard. It makes adding attachments tough with clearances. Hoping someday to also get an AR10 from here.
