16″ AR-15 Barrel — 416R Stainless, 1:8 Twist, .223 Wylde (M4 Profile)

Overview
This 16″ AR-15 barrel is machined from premium 416R stainless steel and button-rifled for a smooth bore and consistent accuracy. Chambered in .223 Wylde, this barrel combines the best attributes of 5.56 NATO and .223 Remington — offering safe use of 5.56 ammunition while providing tighter lands/grooves for improved accuracy with .223 match loads. The M4 profile and M4 feed ramps provide Mil-Spec compatibility while the carbine gas system, dimpled .750″ gas journal, and 1/2-28 muzzle threads make this a versatile platform for duty carbines, precision builds, and general range rifles.

Key Features

  • Chamber: .223 Wylde — optimized for accuracy and compatibility with both 5.56 NATO and .223 Remington
  • Caliber: 5.56/.223 (.223 Wylde chamber)
  • Barrel Length: 16″
  • Material: 416R Stainless Steel
  • Rifling: Button rifled for consistent bore finish and long life
  • Twist Rate: 1:8 — ideal for stabilizing 55–77 gr bullets and match loads
  • Profile: M4 contour with M4 feed ramps
  • Gas System: Carbine length for proven reliability
  • Gas Journal: .750″ (dimpled for set-screw gas blocks)
  • Muzzle Threads: 1/2-28 — compatible with common brakes and flash hiders

Why Choose .223 Wylde?

The .223 Wylde chamber is a great choice when you want the flexibility to safely run 5.56 NATO ammo and also take advantage of tighter chamber dimensions that can improve accuracy with precision .223 match bullets. It’s a common choice for shooters who want a single barrel that performs well for both duty/range use and precision shooting.

Compatibility & Build Notes

  • Designed to fit standard AR-15 upper receivers and barrel nuts.
  • Dimpled .750″ gas journal fits standard set-screw gas blocks — confirm block model for exact fitment.
  • Use with a carbine-length gas tube and appropriate muzzle device for reliable gas timing.
  • Professional installation and headspace check recommended for custom builds.
  • Always verify local, state and federal regulations before assembling or modifying firearms.

Finish & Care

416R stainless offers excellent corrosion resistance and a durable bore surface. Regular bore cleaning and light external oiling after use will preserve finish and accuracy. If you prefer a different aesthetic or additional hardness, ask our team about compatible coatings or treatments available at Mid State Firearms.

sound of freedom – This was a great set up. I loved being able to customize the set up. Only issue I had was my own fault as a newb to building these. I used a heavy barrel in a slim hand guard. It makes adding attachments tough with clearances. Hoping someday to also get an AR10 from here.
