Stop Guessing. Start Drilling It Right.
If your .936 barrel doesn’t have a dimple, your gas block alignment is basically a coin flip.
This tool fixes that—fast.
The Cheap Ass .936 Dimpling Jig (V2) from Mid State Firearms uses your actual gas port to guide you, so you can drill a perfect 180° dimple exactly where your set screw needs it.
No measuring. No eyeballing. No “that should be close enough.”
✔ Why This Works (When Guessing Doesn’t)
-
Aligns directly off the gas port (the only reference that matters)
-
Guides your drill to true 180° opposite
-
Ensures your gas block sits straight, secure, and repeatable
-
Prevents cycling issues caused by misalignment
⚙️ How It Works (Takes 2 Minutes)
-
Slide onto your .936″ barrel
-
Use the included pointed set screw to index the gas port
-
Tighten it down
-
Drill a shallow dimple through the guide hole, 5/32″ Drill bit recommended.
Done. You now have a properly indexed barrel.

💬 Final Take
This isn’t a fancy machinist tool.
It’s better—it’s simple, effective, and does exactly what you need without wasting your money.
If you’ve got a .936 barrel and no dimple, this is the fastest way to fix it correctly the first time.

sound of freedom – This was a great set up. I loved being able to customize the set up. Only issue I had was my own fault as a newb to building these. I used a heavy barrel in a slim hand guard. It makes adding attachments tough with clearances. Hoping someday to also get an AR10 from here.
