12″ 8.6 Blackout 4150 CMV Nitride Barrel – 1:3 Twist | AR-10 Platform
Built for compact power and suppressed performance, this 12″ 8.6 Blackout barrel is engineered to take full advantage of the cartridge’s unique design. Machined from 4150 CMV steel and finished in a durable QPQ nitride, this barrel delivers the strength, corrosion resistance, and longevity required for hard use.
Designed for AR-10 / LR-308 platforms, it features a pistol-length gas system and the critical 1:3 twist rate needed to properly stabilize heavy .338 caliber projectiles.
Why 12″ is Ideal for 8.6 Blackout
The 8.6 Blackout cartridge was designed around short barrels and suppressed shooting, making 12″ one of the most effective and versatile lengths available.
- Optimized powder burn in compact barrels
- Excellent balance of velocity and maneuverability
- Ideal for suppressed and unsuppressed setups
- Maintains strong energy with both subsonic and supersonic loads
This makes a 12″ setup perfect for SBR builds, hunting rifles, and suppressed platforms.
The Importance of 1:3 Twist
8.6 Blackout uses an extremely fast 1:3 twist rate, which is critical for stabilizing heavy bullets (often 200–350+ grains).
Benefits include:
- Reliable stabilization of long, heavy projectiles
- Increased rotational energy on impact
- Enhanced terminal performance, especially with subsonic ammo
This ultra-fast twist is what sets 8.6 BLK apart from traditional rifle cartridges.

sound of freedom – This was a great set up. I loved being able to customize the set up. Only issue I had was my own fault as a newb to building these. I used a heavy barrel in a slim hand guard. It makes adding attachments tough with clearances. Hoping someday to also get an AR10 from here.
