Shipping to California with AB 1263? Here’s How Mid State Firearms Keeps Your Order Compliant and Your Information Secure

Yes, Mid State Firearms ships to California! Even with California’s new firearm-related regulations taking effect January 1, 2026, California customers can continue ordering from Mid State Firearms. We’ve implemented a secure, automated identity verification process through Entrinsia ZeroTrust to help meet California’s new requirements while protecting our customers’ personal information.

We understand that being asked to upload your driver’s license and complete a quick video selfie during checkout may seem unusual. We also understand that your personal information is important, and you deserve to know exactly why we’re asking for it, how the verification works, and how your information is protected.

Here’s what California customers need to know.

Why Does California Require ID Verification?

On January 1, 2026, California Assembly Bill 1263 (AB 1263) went into effect, introducing additional requirements for businesses selling certain firearm-related products to California customers.

Under California Civil Code § 3273.51, covered sales involving firearm accessories, firearm manufacturing machines, and firearm barrels unattached to a firearm require sellers to take several steps before completing the sale or delivery.

These requirements include:

  • Providing the customer with a clear notice explaining certain California firearm manufacturing laws.
  • Obtaining the customer’s acknowledgment that they received and understand the notice.
  • Verifying the customer’s age and identity to establish that they are at least 18 years old.
  • Following specific shipping and delivery requirements, including matching the shipping address to the purchaser’s identification.
  • Requiring the purchaser to present identification and provide a signature when the covered product is delivered.

These requirements are part of California’s effort to regulate the sale and distribution of certain firearm-related products and provide customers with information about California’s firearm manufacturing laws.

You can read the actual legislation in California Civil Code § 3273.51.

Why Does Mid State Firearms Verify Every California Order?

Rather than trying to determine which individual products in an order trigger specific verification requirements at checkout, we’ve chosen to implement a consistent verification process for all orders shipping to California.

Whether you’re purchasing an AR-15 component, an accessory, or another item from our catalog, California orders will be directed through our Entrinsia verification process.

This approach allows us to maintain a consistent checkout procedure, reduce confusion, and help ensure that applicable requirements aren’t overlooked.

Our goal is simple: Continue serving California customers while taking the necessary steps to comply with California law.

How Does Entrinsia ZeroTrust Verification Work?

We’ve partnered with Entrinsia ZeroTrust to automate the identity verification process.

Entrinsia specializes in document authentication, age verification, facial matching, and liveness detection. The process is completed directly through your browser using your phone or computer. You don’t need to download a separate application or create another account.

Most verifications take less than 30 seconds.

Here’s how it works:

1. Photograph Your Government-Issued ID

During checkout, you’ll be prompted to photograph a valid government-issued identification document, such as your driver’s license or state ID.

Entrinsia analyzes the document to verify its authenticity and extract the information needed for verification, including your identity, age, and applicable address information.

2. Complete a Quick Video Selfie

You’ll also be asked to complete a short video selfie using your device’s camera.

This is an additional security measure called a liveness check.

Entrinsia compares the person in the video with the photograph on the identification document to help confirm that the person submitting the ID is actually the person pictured on it.

This helps protect against fraudulent submissions involving borrowed IDs, photographs, screenshots, or other attempts to impersonate another person.

3. Automated Verification

Entrinsia processes the information and returns the configured verification results to our checkout system.

This allows the verification to happen automatically without requiring Mid State Firearms employees to manually collect and review photographs of customers’ identification.

4. Complete Your Order

Once verification is completed, your order can proceed through our normal processing workflow, subject to any additional California shipping or transfer requirements applicable to the products purchased.

If your order contains an item requiring additional handling, we’ll contact you directly.

Is My Driver’s License or Video Selfie Stored?

This is one of the most important questions, and we want to address it directly.

We selected Entrinsia ZeroTrust because its verification system is designed around data minimization. The objective is to verify the customer without creating a permanent collection of sensitive identification photographs and video selfies.

According to Entrinsia’s published ZeroTrust privacy policy:

  • Driver’s license photographs: Processed during verification and permanently deleted after the verification session, typically within seconds.
  • Video selfies: Processed for facial matching and liveness detection, then permanently deleted.
  • Biometric templates: Entrinsia states that facial comparison is performed during processing and biometric templates are not retained.
  • Verification records: Entrinsia retains limited information documenting that the verification occurred and the results of the checks performed.

Entrinsia’s privacy policy also explains that certain verification information may be returned to the retailer, depending on the fields configured for the integration.

For example, information such as a customer’s name, verification result, and applicable address information may be used to complete the checkout process.

Importantly, Entrinsia states that it does not retain the full street address, date of birth, raw ID photograph, or video selfie after verification.

In other words, your actual ID photograph and video selfie are not intended to become permanent files in a retailer’s customer database.

We encourage customers who have questions about the handling of their verification information to review that policy.

Does Mid State Firearms Still Ship to California?

Absolutely! California customers are welcome at Mid State Firearms.

We continue to accept orders from California and work to make the additional compliance requirements as straightforward as possible.

There are, however, some California-specific shipping and transfer requirements that customers should understand.

Orders Containing Firearm Barrels

California enacted a separate law, Senate Bill 704 (SB 704), which also took effect January 1, 2026.

Under California Penal Code § 33700, the sale or transfer of a covered firearm barrel generally must be completed in person through a California-licensed firearms dealer.

This means that certain products containing or consisting of firearm barrels require additional review before shipment.

If your order contains a barrel or another item requiring special handling, we’ll contact you directly to coordinate the appropriate shipping arrangements. This may include having the product shipped to the California FFL dealer of your choice.

We don’t want customers to be surprised by these requirements after placing an order, so we’ll work with you to determine the appropriate destination before shipping.

You can read more about these requirements through the California Department of Justice’s official firearm barrel regulations page.

Other California Orders

For orders that do not require a separate FFL transfer, our goal is to process and ship your order normally once the required verification and applicable shipping requirements have been satisfied.

We review California orders to help ensure they are handled appropriately rather than simply rejecting orders because of their destination.

Why We Chose Automated Verification

We believe customers should be able to shop with confidence without unnecessarily exposing their personal information.

Manually collecting and storing photographs of driver’s licenses and other identification documents creates additional data-security responsibilities for retailers.

Entrinsia provides an alternative by processing identification documents electronically, performing automated identity checks, and retaining a limited verification record rather than the original ID photographs and video selfies.

For our customers, this means:

  • A quick verification process, typically completed in under 30 seconds.
  • No separate application to download.
  • Automated document authentication and age verification.
  • Facial matching and liveness detection.
  • Immediate deletion of submitted ID photographs and video selfies according to Entrinsia’s published privacy policy.
  • A documented verification result without requiring Mid State Firearms to maintain a collection of customer ID photographs.

We believe this is a practical way to handle the additional requirements while being mindful of our customers’ privacy.

Questions About California Orders?

We understand that California’s firearm laws can be confusing, especially with several new requirements taking effect in 2026.

If you have questions about placing an order, completing the Entrinsia verification process, or shipping a particular product to California, please contact us before or after placing your order.

We’re happy to help explain our ordering and shipping procedures and work with you if your order requires additional arrangements.

California customers are welcome at Mid State Firearms.

We’re committed to continuing to provide quality firearm components and accessories to customers nationwide while respecting the laws and regulations applicable to each shipment.

Thank you for continuing to shop with Mid State Firearms!

What if I prefer not to upload my ID?

We understand that some customers may not be comfortable uploading their identification online. If you’re unable or prefer not to complete the Entrinsia verification process, we may be able to arrange shipment to a participating California-licensed firearms dealer (FFL) near you.

The receiving dealer may be able to verify your identification in person and coordinate local pickup, subject to applicable California requirements and the dealer’s policies.

Please contact us before placing your order so we can discuss the available options and coordinate with a participating FFL. Availability depends on the product being purchased and the receiving dealer’s willingness to accept the shipment. Orders with Barrels or serialized frames must go to FFL dealers regardless.
